Silver Street - Location
In keeping with the company's policy of developing brownfield sites a small area of land was purchased adjacent to the Bishop's Palace in Bishop Auckland Market Place. The proposed development in this area will include two town houses and eight apartments.
"King street was so named because King Charles I was held prisoner in one of the houses in 1647. On his previous two visits to Bishop Aukland the King was an honoured guest of the Bishop of Durham at Aukland Castle, the original entrance of which was in Silver Street, at the far end of King Street, on the right. The Georgian House in the centre of the picture, taken in 1890, is 'The Elms'."
